( CHARACTER INFORMATION )

Name/Work Name: Chiaki Nanami / Mirai
Canon: Super Dangan Ronpa 2
Canon Point: The very end of the game.
AU/CRAU: CRAU from Cosmographia
Age: Actual age unknown, since she's an AI and we don't know exactly when she was created. She was designed to be a teenager though, so physically and mentally she's around 16-17 or so.
History: Chiaki @ the Dangan Ronpa Wikia
Personality: As the Ultimate Gamer, obviously Chiaki loves video games. Like, really loves video games. She plays them all the time, talks about them all the time, references them all the time... It's stated she often forgets to eat or sleep because she's just that into the games she's playing. As a result, she's something of a sleepyhead, often taking naps. Or sometimes falling asleep in the middle of a conversation. Of course it's very possible that, due to her being an AI, she doesn't need to sleep to begin with and simply enjoys it.

Another effect of being an AI is that Chiaki is more than a little socially awkward. She's not used to being around people and has a lot of trouble relating to them. A lot of things that are common knowledge for others are completely unknown to her. Living things, both animals and people, are unpredictable and she doesn't really know how to deal with it all that well. She even admits as much herself. Not only that, but she can be a little slow in conversations - Chiaki likes to think about her words carefully before she speaks and ends up pausing a lot because of this, which others may mistake as her zoning out. She's not always totally confident in her words either, ending on "I think" or "maybe" a lot of the time. She has her own pace of doing things and that pace is "not all that fast".

But just because she's slow during casual conversations, that doesn't mean she doesn't have a very sharp mind. On the contrary. Her experience with games of all genres has left her with a lot of useful knowledge and a logical mind. She's able to figure out certain twists thanks to her knowledge of murder mystery games and even makes use of her dungeon crawling skills by drawing a map of the murder scene at one point. During investigations and trials, she's one of the more intelligent members of the cast, often picking up on things others miss. She often helps out Hajime, leading him to the right answers and helping the rest of the class understand.

It helps that she always knows how to keep a cool head. Unlike a lot of the other students, Chiaki doesn't freak out, no matter how dire things get. Her ability to stay calm even under extreme pressure is even noted by Hajime himself as impressive. This, too, helps during the class trials, as she doesn't let the awful circumstances cloud her judgement. She may be very quiet a lot of the time, but she's just awkward - not shy. When the situation calls for it, she has no trouble stepping in and calming everyone down. Even if this means ordering people around, such as when she outright tells Nagito to be quiet during the first trial. Or when she slaps Akane later on, when the other girl refused to listen to reason.

Even during situations like that, though, Chiaki always stays kind and polite. While it's definitely true that she has trouble relating to and understanding people, that doesn't stop her from trying. And she always believes in them with all her heart - all her classmates are her friends and though she definitely doesn't let that stop her from finding out who the culprit is in each case, she's still kind to them. She's just a very sweet person in general, always trying her best to be nice and understanding. While she definitely never excuses killing someone else, she doesn't judge her classmates all that harshly. She isn't someone who stops trying to understand people just because they did something terrible. She may not agree with it, but she doesn't hate them for it either.

Throughout the game, Chiaki does her best to protect her classmates. This is what leads her to reveal herself as the traitor. She cares so much about them that she'll gladly give up her own existence for them. In the end she goes into her execution smiling and waving. Her bond to the other students was so strong at this point that, at first, they refused to even believe she was the traitor at all. The fact that she was able to care this much about her classmates, to the point of sacrificing herself for them, is highly unusual considering what she really is. Monomi even describes it as a miracle. Her protective nature shows up all throughout the game and going through everything after her role is revealed makes it clear she's being trying to keep everyone safe from day one. Even if it may just be part of her function at first, it certainly isn't at the end. Chiaki chooses to protect everyone in the end. Not because she has to, but because she wants to.

Her love for them is what allows her to reappear to Hajime when he needs her the most. Before the virtual world shuts down for good, he thanks her. She responds similarly, thanking Hajime and the others, promising to keep cheering for them and that she'll never forget them. Because no matter what, she cares about them. Chiaki really is a sweet, strong, determined young girl. The fact that she's artificial doesn't change that one bit. Her existence might be fake, but her feelings are very real.

Debt: Well, Chiaki did briefly return to her own canon after leaving Cosmographia, so there's the cost of revival from death, of course. Or... deletion. Near-deletion. Look, the game makes the whole thing kinda vague.

Additionally, she'll want to help out Giffany with her debt as well. Friends should help out friends, right?

Previous Game Info: So at the very end of SDR2, as the simulated world starts to shut down, what's left of Chiaki finds a strange 'hole' that she decides to go through. After doing so, she ended up in a place called Waverly Bay. Furthermore, she now had an actual body, which included a pink gem. Turns out she was in a jamjar game based around Steven Universe and she was a Gem now.

Like everyone else who suddenly ended up there, Chiaki did her best to get used to everything. She probably did better at that than most, since as she was technically dead back home, she no longer had any place to go back to. So overall, she had a very positive attitude about living in this new world. And being the friendly girl she was, she got along with most others.

One of these people, someone she got along with better than anyone else, was Giffany. And how could she not? Giffany was a real, actual video game character! How cool is that? Chiaki immediately connected with the other girl over this, being the Ultimate Gamer and all. And as Chiaki is an AI as well, she was better equipped to understand Giffany than most. Though she never actually confessed to anyone that she's not entirely human. Chiaki and Giffany ended up hanging out together a lot, playing games together, chatting, and even fusing together like Gems can do.

Being a Gem now, Chiaki got several new powers. The most important of these was her ability to dreamwalk; to explore others' dreams while she slept. It's a power that took her more than a little getting used to, but one she ended up using a whole lot - especially considering how much she usually sleeps anyway. Of course, she'd never use it to spy on people and mostly just wandered around, helping people with nightmares as she came across them.

She used these powers most consistently for Giffany, after she found out she had trouble sleeping. It's much easier to sleep when someone's watching over you in your dreams, it turns out. So they started sleeping together. Purely platonically, of course.

Inventory: » Her clothing
» Her Hope's Peak Academy e-Handbook
» A (pink) handheld gaming system + several games
» A picture diary.
» A very special game.

Abilities: As the Ultimate Gamer, Chiaki is obviously best at... well, playing games. Which doesn't seem like the most useful skill, but see, Chiaki is very skilled at just about every genre. Well, except dating sims, anyway. Meaning she picks up a lot of handy skills! Hey, turns out playing lots of mystery games helps out when you need to investigate.

Beyond that, as she comes from Cosmographia, she's a Steven Universe-style Gem. This means that she can't die unless her gem is destroyed, as her body is technically just a projection. Additionally, she also got several more unique powers from this; dreamwalking, astral projection, and the ability to make energy shields. It's not much, but hey, it's a whole lot more than she ever had before.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ KIND: Look, every group of characters needs at least one cinnamon roll and Chiaki is definitely one of those. She's a very friendly towards the other students, even those who are a bit rough around the edges. She cares about all of them, enough so that she doesn't mind sacrificing her own existence for the sake of protecting them.
+ SMART: As stated in the abilities section, Chiaki's special skill is playing video games. And yeah, it means she picked up a lot of things from them. But applying that to actual situations is still tricky. Still, she pulls it off very well, often being a key part in the various investigations and trials. Without all the various clues she picks up and deductions she makes, some of those trials might have ended really badly.
+ CALM: A lot of Hope's Peak's students have no freaking chill. Chiaki is a major exception. While she's certainly surprised or shocked at various moments, she never panics and always manages to stay in control, even as people just keep dying. Girl's got nerves of steel.
+ DETERMINED: Chiaki never gives up. Period. Not once during the game, no matter how bleak the trials turn out, does she give in to despair. Even when it seems like a trial has hit a dead end, she urges everyone to consider another angle, or to look at all the facts one more time, even if she doesn't know the answer herself. Chiaki always pushes her friends to move forwards - even after she's dead.

- PEOPLE SKILLS: Chiaki certainly is very kind, but that doesn't mean her people skills are always the best. She's not necessarily shy, she just doesn't have all that much experience and sometimes finds it difficult to understand others. That's where her difficulty with dating sims comes from, for example - most games are easy to understand. But living creatures, be it people or animals, are unpredictable, so she sometimes has trouble dealing with them.
- AI: Being an artificial intelligence who's only really lived in a simulation, Chiaki doesn't have an awful lot of life experience. So everything she knows comes either from her programming or things she picked up from games, meaning there's a lot of basic things she just... doesn't really know about. In the game it comes up that she doesn't really know about certain minor holidays or the fact that milk comes from cows.
- SLEEPY: Chiaki sleeps a lot. Like, a lot, a lot. Sometimes she falls asleep standing, while someone else is right there. Or in the middle of a sentence. Yeah, uh. Suffice to say, Chiaki doesn't really have all that much energy. Well, most of the time anyway. But she sure as hell isn't much of an athlete - just like most gamers, let's be honest.
- SPACEY: Again, Chiaki isn't really a high energy type of person. And while she does get serious when the situation calls for it, the rest of the time she can be a little... absent minded. She easily gets lost in games when she plays them, to the point of forgetting to take care of herself. And during conversations, she tends to pause a lot, as she very carefully thinks of what to say - and while being thoughtful isn't a bad thing, she does sometimes take it a little too far. It's just how she is.
